This is the companion website to "Exploring Paradise",  a transcription of Titus Smith's journals of his tours of Nova Scotia in 1801-02.

You can buy the book at Amazon.

Of course you should buy the book, but the entire text is here.  There are several ways to visualize the data - Google Earth, Google Maps and Provincial Landscape Viewer.  Each has unique features and you are invited to explore.

Start on the Overview tab, where you will find all of the basics.  Read his Instructions and Summaries.  Then move on to download KML and image files for use in Google Earth, allowing you to

  • Take the diaries with you (on your Iphone) on your tramps and find Smith's camps.
  • Read the journals within the context of a map
  • Fly along the course Smith describes
  • Set the background to include or exclude contemporary infrastructure and photos
  • Make measurements and explore areas close up
  • Overlay original maps of Smith's travels
  • Make movies on Google Earth
Google Earth will look like this:
